I'm at my wits end, I have browsed all over the internet for a solution but nothing has worked; my adapter(s) seem to just be allergic to my new router.
A few weeks ago I upgraded my home router to an ASUS RT-N66U, which I fully expected to love, I thought it would improve gaming/streaming performance. Once the firmware updates were complete (because I know the old RT-N66U firmwares were broken), I expected it to be smooth sailing. That unfortunately hasn't been the case.
About 2 hours after I started using my new router's 5GHz band my Network adapter stopped having anything to do with my Black Knight (nickname ASUS gave their RT-N66U). Infuriatingly my WNDA4100 just started disabling itself, I tried to troubleshoot and eventually I came to the conclusion that my adapter was just worn out. So I replaced it with a Linksys AE3000.
That was fantastic for a few hours.. until my Linksys AE3000 started doing the same thing. When connected to my new router, the adapter turns itself off and then tries to connect to a different network once it's back online; I tired to force it to connect to my new router by disabling it's ability to automatically connect to other networks, but now it just disables itself and retries connecting to my new router before disabling itself again about every five minutes.
I have gone through even more troubleshooting steps since buying the AE3000, Ive updated, uninstalled, and reinstalled both my ASUS router and my Linksys adapter; I've gotten on the phone with ASUS support and tweaked the settings on my router, I've disabled my adapter's ability to disable itself to save power, and most recently I've bought a USB extender to get my wireless adpater closer to my router (no i can't use Ethernet, they are on different floors). Despite all of this, both my old and new adapters the WNDA4100 and the AE3000 continue to disable themselves when I try to get them to connect to my new router.
Now sometimes, at random times, the adapters, especially the AE3000, will choose to behave properly for extended periods of time; Unplugging and re-plugging my adapter(s) seems to encourage this behavior but doesn't get consistent results.
I'm at my wits end for what could be causing this. Should I upgrade to a different version of Windows 7? Do I need a larger power supply for my router to use the 5GHz band? Is this just something wrong with my Router, it works fine with my phone? I don't use a 3rd party firewall, so that's not it. When I am am connected to my new router I get 4 to 5 bars and around 225mbps, so what the heck is wrong?
Maybe someone on here knows better than me, because I'm near to beating my head against the wall.
