The US Springfield 1873.45/70 Trapdoor Rifle. And the 405 grain bullets were accurate out to by many estimates three quarters of a mile or over 800 yards. That is a long way using today’s modern optics. It is an extremely long way with iron sights.

Model 1873 'Custer Range' Trapdoor Springfield Carbine, c. late 19th century, serial number 22312, walnut stock with ESA cartouche on the left side, and script circle P below the triggerguard, steel fittings, lockplate marked U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1873, top of high arch trapdoor marked MODEL/1873 over an eagle head and US, barrel lg. 22, overall lg. 41 3/8 in.

Stock has very few minor dings, buttplate has been removed and is not drilled for a cleaning rod, receiver and lockplate still retain some of its case hardening, barrel is a light plum color, action functions properly, overall in very good condition.
